Lead the Story of Sacramento Preserving the Past Inspiring the Future.
Sacramento is seeking an energetic City Historian to guide the community in preserving, showcasing, and honoring its vibrant and varied history. Reporting to the Director of Convention and Cultural Services, this role provides leadership for the Center for Sacramento History, guiding the programs, collections, and stories that connect residents to the city's past.
This is a chance to shape exhibitions, educational programs, research, and digital access while ensuring Sacramento's history is told in inclusive, meaningful, and engaging ways. The Historian partners with community groups, tribal governments, cultural institutions, and universities, and helps ensure historic sites, monuments, and public spaces reflect the full diversity of Sacramento's story.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, culturally competent leader with strong experience in public history, archives, museums, or related fields, along with proven management skills and professional credibility. A passion for community engagement and inclusive storytelling is essential.
