- Gallery Manager
Description
The Berea Arts Council (BAC) seeks a highly organized, detail-oriented, and community-minded Gallery Manager to help oversee daily operations of the BAC Gallery. This role supports the Executive Director, the Board, exhibits and programs committees, and other staff/volunteers to ensure exhibitions, programs, and events run smoothly and that the gallery remains an inviting, professional, and accessible space for artists and visitors.
Schedule: 15–20 hours per week, primarily Wednesday–Friday during gallery hours, with additional time required for special events and other needs as scheduled.
A successful candidate must complete a background check as part of the hiring process.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain the overall cleanliness, organization, and presentation of the gallery space.
Maintains membership and sponsor databases. Creates reports as needed.
Greet and engage visitors during open hours, provide information about current and upcoming exhibitions, and promote BAC programs.
Assist with tracking and recording basic financial information (sales, receipts, petty cash, etc.) in coordination with the Executive Director and Treasurer.
Support the Executive Director with administrative tasks, communications, and special projects as needed.
Assist in the planning, setup, and staffing of special events, receptions, and programs throughout the year.
Help ensure the gallery is open and staffed during regular open hours.
Provides general clerical support: creates mail merges for mass mailings; generates tax letters for donors; records art submitted for shows and makes exhibit labels; monitors and orders office supplies; schedules volunteers for some activities; coordinates registrations for workshops and classes; creates PowerPoint presentations and performs other duties as required.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team environment.
Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace; graphic design experience (e.g., Canva, Adobe, etc.) is a plus.
Comfort with basic tools and equipment (training provided).
A background or interest in visual arts, arts administration, or related fields preferred.
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and handle physical tasks related to exhibition installation.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework in art, arts administration, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in gallery operations, customer service, or event coordination is strongly preferred.
