We are seeking a part-time Homewood Museum House Manager who will assume primary responsibility for front-of-house duties at Homewood Museum. The House Manager oversees the museum's gift shop and visitor services functions, schedules docents for tours, and supports reservation of group tours to the museums. The House Manager reports to the Museum Director and works closely with museum coordinators to ensure the overall quality and safety of visitor experience.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Security
Open and close the museum daily, operate museum shop; serve as primary point of contact for museum's security system.
Shop
Primary work location is in the shop, responsible for shop staffing and sales, operate POS register system, run reports, conduct annual inventory, collaborate on shop orders, maintain inventory, general merchandizing, and sending out monthly surveys.
Promote and sell museum memberships. Make shop deposits and all credit card uploads.
Volunteer & Visitor Services
Warmly greet arriving volunteers and visitors, serve as point of contact for guided tours (be they outside groups or JHU classes), scheduling and giving assignments to volunteer guides, be able to give introduction and/or serve as a guide if necessary. Be able to walk guests through using the QR codes for self-guided tour.
General Museum Support
Coordinate and schedule adequate weekend shop staffing coverage and docent coverage.
Assist other staff in a variety of ways, e.g. work with staff to support and promote museum programs and tours and to assign tasks to students and volunteers.
Submit work orders for minor repairs to museum as necessary.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ability to multitask and learn quickly.
Proficient working with computers and software applications (including MS Word, Outlook, Excel, Canva, and POS system).
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push and pull up to 35 lbs.
Ability to use stairs.
Position Hours
24 hours per week (Tuesday-Friday, 10:30am - 4:30pm).
Possibility of required weekend and evening work hours.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED.
Prior customer service experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
College Degree.
Museum experience.
Interest in history, architecture, and material culture are a plus.
Previous experience with retail accounting systems and purchasing inventory.

Salary Range

Education and Experience Equivalency Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
