Position Title: Part-Time Museum Shop Attendant
Supervisor: Museum Shop Manager
Department: Finance
Grade: Casual
Hours: 11-14 hours per week (or up to 14 hours per week)
Pay Rate: $18 per hour
SUMMARY
Part-time Museum Shop Attendant position available immediately. The Museum Shop Attendant plays a key role in creating a welcoming and engaging experience for our museum visitors while supporting daily retail operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys customer service, has an interest in museums or cultural institutions, and is flexible with their schedule. The Shop Attendant will assist guests, operate the point-of-sale system, maintain merchandise displays, and support special events as needed.
Schedule & Availability
- Regular shifts are Tuesday – Sunday, 12:45pm – 5:15pm
- Must be available to work both weekdays and weekends
- Flexibility required to serve as backup coverage and to work special events or extended hours on occasion
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional customer service to our Museum and Garden visitors.
- Conduct opening and closing shop procedures
- Regularly assess and maintain cleanliness of shop (dust and wipe out shelves and cabinets, organize storage)
- Manage all sales transactions
- Restock merchandise and shop supplies as necessary
- Field customer phone calls, questions, and requests
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
The role involves standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to 15 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
An outgoing, reliable, and detailoriented individual with a strong commitment to customer service. Creative troubleshooting skills, a willingness to take on additional responsibilities, and the ability to make independent, informed decisions within the context of established shop policies and procedures. Comfort working with computerized register and inventory systems, as well as basic math skills and confidence handling cash and credit transactions. Punctual, dependable, and flexible with scheduling, including weekends, event shifts, and occasional backup coverage. Ability to work independently and as part of a small team. Previous retail or customerfacing experience. Interest in museums, history, art, or cultural institutions is a plus.
