Position Type: Instructional - Other Titles/Speech Language Specialist Date Posted: 11/25/2025 Location: Special Education -408 NEWARK BOARD OF EDUCATION HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES 765 BROAD STREET, NEWARK, NEW JERSEY 07102 ROGER LEON, SUPERINTENDENT SPEECH LANGUAGE SPECIALIST Office of Special Education (Pending availability of funds and Board of Education approval) The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the positions of Speech Language Specialist, Office of Special Education. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS An appropriate New Jersey Department of Education Standard Certificate or eligible for an Emergency certificate as deemed necessary by https://www.nj.gov/education/certification/certsandtitles/ Masters or higher degree in speech-language pathology, or its equivalent, from a regionally accredited college/university. Description: Assess children in the district who have suspected language, articulation, fluency and/or voice disorders. Provide direct and indirect services to reduce or eliminate speech and language difficulties that adversely affect a student's academic performance and are determined to be outside the range of acceptable variations. Case Managers and provide therapeutic interventions for all students classified as Eligible for Speech and language Services. Collaborate and function as a responsible member of the Child Study BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES To evaluate children identified thorough a standardized assessment process and/or functional process in order to determine speech and / or language functioning and impact on educational performance. To generate a written professional report of the evaluation to include State and district mandated components. To participate in CST identification meetings involving suspected language disability students. To participate with CST to determine needs for speech and language impaired children and to develop appropriate goals and objectives to service these students. To prepare Individual Education Programs, reevaluations and annual reviews for students Eligible for Speech Language Services. To follow federal laws, state mandates and district policies and procedures. To schedule students and provide speech language services as mandated by the IEP. To prepare and maintain all case records for Eligible for Speech Language Services students. To prepare and maintain ongoing progress records for each student receiving speech language services. To provide written input to the IEP of the ESERS student's Present Level of Academic and Functional Performance in the area of communication, goals and objectives, frequency duration, and group size. To utilize State and district eligibility guidelines in determining eligibility for speech language services. To complete State and district reports as required. To consult with Nurse regarding hearing evaluation. To consult with administrator, teachers, parents, and staff. Top order and maintain equipment, materials and supplies. To participate in Continuing Education in the area of Speech and Language. To be knowledgeable in and utilize district's technological/electronic programs and equipment. Perform other duties as assigned.
